The picture shown here was created using a superpositioning of two unrelated photos: a satellite image of the Giza plateau (with the three principal pyramids shown from directly above), and a NASA-generated photograph of the three stars comprising Orion's belt. From largest to smallest, these pyramids are called Khufu, Khafre and Menkaura...the oldest one, Khufu, was built over a 20 year period around 2560 BCE... that's about 4600 years ago.
Note two amazing coincidences:
(1) The relative positions of the pyramids coincide perfectly with the relative positions of the stars.
(2) The brightness of each star appears to roughly correspond to the size of each pyramid.
Although these stars are very distant from Earth, from left to right, Mintaka (919 light-years away), Alnilam (1360 light-years away), and Alnitak (826 light-years away), they are easily visible by eye. The godess, Osiris, was central to Egyptian religious belief, and the pyramids are considered by some as gateways to return to her home in the Orion constellation. Note that some air shafts in the Khufu pyramid are pointed directly at Orion. So, the connection to the Orion system is well documented. I leave it to your imagination to figure out how the Egyptians were able to reproduce the alignment so precisely.
